Edward Gorman, President of the East Hampton Conservators presented a $500 contribution to NY State Assemblyman Fred Thiele for his re-election campaign. Assemblyman Thiele embodies the Conservators mission, “to support candidates with a demonstrated commitment to environmental protection.”
During more than 25 years of public service, Fred Thiele has been actively engaged in work on aquifer protection, affordable housing, open space preservation, farmland preservation, environmental protection, and improving mass transit on the east end. Thiele was one of the chief architects of the Peconic Bay Community Preservation Fund (CPF) which to date has preserved nearly 10,000 acres on eastern Long Island. Among countless environmental initiatives, he is credited with obtaining critical NY State funding for Peconic Bay Estuary improvement projects and he served as attorney to the Town of East Hampton in drafting its Comprehensive Plan.
Mr. Gorman noted that he first met Republican Thiele long ago when Fred was attorney for the East Hampton Town Planning Board. “Assemblyman Thiele was a stalwart environmentalist then and has not changed. He is exactly the kind of candidate the Conservators seek to support,” Gorman said.
