Town Emergency Communication System
A countywide Emergency Communication network known as the 800 system was begun in East Hampton when Cathy Lester was supervisor. It allows all public safety workers, primarily fire and police to communicate directly with each other. The system has been steadily improved; the last of five communication towers now in place eliminated any dead spots. Asked his opinion of the system East Hampton Chief of Police Todd Sarris said with conviction, “Excellent!”
